Under the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA), Ontario landlords can increase rent once every 12 months by the guideline amount set by the province. The guideline is capped at 2.5% and is based on the Ontario Consumer Price Index (CPI).

Important Notes
- Units first occupied after November 15, 2018 are exempt from rent control
- Landlords must give 90 days written notice (N1 form) before a rent increase
- Rent can only be increased once every 12 months
- Above-guideline increases (AGI) require LTB approval
